CrossFit Games Announces 17.1 Open Details!

And guess what? Its a double feature!

We are twelve days out from one of the largest online fitness competitions hosted by the CrossFit Games. Today, Dave Castro and the gang just announced that 17.1 CrossFit Games Open will be a double feature that will take place in Paris, France & Montreal, Canada! What?! Now that’s what I’m talking about.

CrossFit Games site is indicating that the announcement will come from the infamous fearless leader, Dave Castro in Paris, France. Then they will whisk the live feed all the way to Montreal, Canada for part one of the head to head action.

But who you ask? Well we are going to start off with a great line up featuring Patrick Vellner vs Brent Fikowski. Both very formidable athletes in their own right. Vellner finished third and Fikowski finished 4th in the 2016 CrossFit Games. Should be fun to watch this match up.

And once they are done, we get thrown back across the pond to Paris, France where Samantha Briggs and Kristin Holte will throwdown for 17.1.

Director of the #CrossFitGames @theDaveCastro will announce Open Workout 17.1 from Reebok CrossFit Louvre in Paris, France. Shortly after the announcement, we'll throw it to an entirely different country as @pvellner and @fikowski third- and fourth-fittest men on Earth, respectively—kick off the 2017 Games season from Reebok CrossFit Yul, in Montreal, Québec, Canada. We'll also get to watch 2013 Games champion Samantha Briggs and 2016 Games 12th-place finisher Kristin Holte throw down on 17.1 in Paris. — Open Workout #17point1 Live Announcement | @holtekristin 🇳🇴 vs. @bicepslikebriggs 🇬🇧 at @reebokcrossfitlouvre in Paris, France 🇫🇷, presented by @paleoethics. — Learn more about the Open and register at games.crossfit.com. 🔗 in bio. #InTheOpen #CrossFit #CrossFitOpen #Fitness

Now that our mind is pretty much blown, we need to process this information. The CrossFit Games and Dave Castro have decided to take the action to two countries to kick off the open. This is an impressive feat and a great way to expand this brand into other countries in hopes of bringing in more people to the open. This only means great things for the community. As the CrossFit Games continues to grow we can only hope this brings more top level athletes out to compete for the coveted top spot, The Fittest on Earth.

The coverage of 17.1 begins on Feb. 23rd at 5PM PST. You can view the live feed at Games.CrossFit.com. There will be a pre-show before the live announcement, followed by the Cool Down Show. Be sure to mark your calendars and tune in!
